REMEMBER: bibliography generators are only as smart as the information you put in--when possible, enter information "manually" to reduce mistakes!

OWL at Purdue - MLA 7 2009 Guidelines: This is an amazing website with all of the information you'll need to succeed on your bibliography. This is the one I use when I can't remember how to cite something. :-)

MLA 7 information from Bedford St. Martins: this is a wonderful resource and seems to include almost everything you'd need to make your bibliography!!! Check this out if you're unsure how to cite a particular kind of text or source.

WHY CSTs MATTER

Next week, Samohi will participate in our annual state testing, the California Standards Tests. We discussed the individual importance and relevance of these tests today in Period 2, but if you want to review the data and information again in more detail, I've posted it here:

Please see me or email me if you have questions. It's important that all students take this seriously, as it may directly impact your chances for college admissions next year!

Remember, Monday is the English-Language Arts portion of the CST and the EAP part 2 (remember that essay you wrote in mid-March?) supplement. PLEASE go to bed early Sunday night and eat a real breakfast Monday morning (not Flaming Hot Cheetos with a side of Mountain Dew). This matters!

TPS-FAST Analysis Method for Poetry

T- Title (consider literal and metaphoric meanings)

P - Paraphrase (go through and summarize each stanza in your own words)

S - Speaker (consider the narrator or persona of the poem--is he/she an observer or a participant? How "emotionally close" is the speaker? Is he/she experiencing this event right now, or reflecting back on it later?)

F - Figurative Language (look for at least three patterns - similes, metaphors, repetition, sound devices, rhyme, opposites, or particular patterns of words)

A - Attitude (what is the speaker's attitude toward the subject of the poem? In short, what is the tone?)

S - Shift (where does the poem change? why might this turning point be significant?)

T - Theme (a complete statement that expresses the meaning of the poem and highlights two techniques the poet uses to express that meaning...e.g., In the poem "__title______," [the poet] uses ___device #1______ and _device #2_______ to suggest that __poem's meaning__________.
